  • Bio

Dr. Ryan Kolodziej is enjoying an exciting and varied music career that has included solo and collaborative performances, accompanying nationally acclaimed amateur and university choirs, and individual instruction and group courses at the pre-college and university level.

His passion for collaboration and recognizing a real need for accessible, quality music instruction as crucial for artistic and cognitive development fuels his desire to work in music education.

He currently teaches piano in Montreal for the Conservatoire de musique du Collège Stanislas in Outremont, and also maintains a private studio in Griffintown. At the post-secondary level, he has taught as a chargé de cours at l'Université de Montréal, as well as a course instructor at the University of Alberta. His students have enjoyed great success including top prizes at the Concours de musique du Conservatoire de Collège Stanislas, and several First Class Honours in RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) exams.

As a pianist, Dr. Kolodziej has performed in Canada and Europe with notable performances at the Banff Summer Music Festival, the DOFMS (Doors Open for Music at Southminster) series in Ottawa, and in Valencia, Spain for the Valencia International Piano Academy. He was a finalist at the University of Alberta Concerto Competition and has been the recepient of numerous other awards, including multiple grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and a SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada) research grant award for his work on Liszt/Schubert arrangements and transcriptions.

In addition to his work in Montreal, Dr. Kolodziej is artistic director of Centric MusicFest, a summer classical music festival in Lethbridge, Alberta that encourages collaboration between local and visiting musicians and has featured artists such as Krzysztof Jablonski, Iliana Matos, and Andrew Wan.

Dr. Kolodziej earned his DESS (diplôme d'études supérieurs spécialisées) and Doctoral degree from the l'Université de Montréal under the supervision of Maneli Pirzadeh and Marc Durand, and his Masters and Bachelors degrees from the University of Alberta.
